To add a payment method to your account, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Payments Methods page from the navigation bar

  2. Click on ‘Add New Payment Method’ and follow the steps to add a new bank account, credit, or debit card

Adding a bank account via login credentials with Plaid (*Recommended*)

We recommend this methodology so your payment method is instantly available to schedule a payment, and because it reduces the risk of payments failing and late fees being charged.

  • From the 'Add New Payment Method' button, click on ‘Bank Account’ and select the option to enter your login credentials

  • Provide Plaid with your login credentials for the bank you would like to use to pay rent. Please note that Baselane does not have access to or store this information.

  • Once Plaid verifies that you own the account, you should be all set to use your new payment method!

Please note, that Plaid is a secure and leading provider of banking connectivity that supports and is trusted by over 12,000 financial institutions.

Payments via ACH may be subject to a $2 fee. Landlords can cover the fee or pass it on to the tenant.

Adding a bank account manually via account & routing numbers

  • From the 'Add New Payment Method' button, click on ‘Bank Account’ and select the option to add an account manually from the Plaid pop-up

  • Provide Plaid with the account and routing numbers for the bank you would like to use to pay rent

  • Once added we will make a $0.01 deposit into your bank account within 1-2 business days for verification purposes. The deposit will have 3 letter code in the description of the transaction

  • Once you receive the $0.01 deposit, sign in to Baselane and go to the Payment Methods page. Select the account and follow the instructions to enter the three-letter code in the description of the deposit to verify your account. See the image below for an example:

Please note if you receive a deposit but are not able to verify your bank account, you will need to wait until you receive a notification email from Baselane before being able to enter the deposit. Contact support ([email protected]) if you encounter additional difficulties.

Adding a debit or credit card:

  • Click ‘Debit or Credit Card’, and you will be prompted to enter your card information, including cardholder name, card number, expiration date, security code, and billing address

  • Press ‘Add Card,’ and your card will be saved and ready to make payments

Please note there is a 3.49% convenience fee to pay an invoice with a debit or credit card.

What can you do to ensure the fastest processing time?

Faster payments lead to reduced late fees and lower the risk of declines

  • We recommend that Renters connect their bank accounts using their online banking login credentials via Plaid to reduce the risk of a payment failing and incurring late fees

  • To ensure a smooth rent payment process, we kindly request that you maintain sufficient funds in your account starting a few days prior to the rent due date and continue to do so until the payment is processed
